Next Seasons U16 Azzures Win Hemel 7s Tournament
The U16 Azzures had their first outing as a team on the 14th July at the prestigious Hemel 7s tournament. On a baking hot day with 20 teams competing for the cup, it was always going to be a tough introduction for the boys, but after two steady 0-0 draws they seemed to find their feet and qualified from the group stage as runners-up with two wins.
A victory over Letchworth Eagles second team in the quarter finals was rewarded with a difficult tie against their first team in the semi-final. Rumours of a team full of academy players stiffened their resolve and a hard fought 1-0 victory was the result. In the final against Harefield Utd extra time couldn't separate the teams, thanks to some goalkeeping heroics from Daniel Tisseyre.
A tense penalty shoot-out, with Daniel saving two and the Azzures scoring their first four meant the trophy had been secured (at least it would have, but as the last age group to finish we discovered someone had miscalculated and all the trophies had gone). All expectations exceeded, the team reluctantly headed home tired and hungry, but looking forward to next season when there'll hopefully be more trophies, or at least some more 'IOU's!

3G Pitch Gets Football Foundation Support
Welwyn Pegasus today can announce that we have been successful in receiving Football Foundation backing for the 3G project.
The club has committed itself to a £50,000 contribution towards the cost of the project and Monk’s Walk School have contributed £100,000. The feedback we have had from the Football Foundation is that they are particularly impressed with our commitment to the project and our contribution has helped to persuade them to decide to support the remainder of the total cost of the project, which is expected to be over £560,000.”
This is a great achievement by us as a club and now after all those years training at Hatfield we have phase one of our long term objective at Monks Walk School.
I would like to thank the Football Foundation for their fantastic support and belief in us along with Caroline Smith who oversaw the whole process and Karl Lingham from the Hertfordshire FA for his continued support before during and after this project. We would also like to thank Monk’s Walk school for supporting the project with us.
Building should start by the end of July with a mid-October 2013 completion date.
This will help with the further development of our club and our club philosophy along with our “Developing Players for The Future” project.

U8 Royals Win Potters Bar Tournament
Welwyn Pegasus U8 Royals attended Potters Bar Utd Tournament on Sunday 7th July. It was an early start for the boys who's first game started at 9:30am and with the temperature all ready in 20's it felt like we had arrived in the costa del! Once the sun cream was applied the boys could get on and play football.
With all the games being 10min straight and the heat increasing the boys had there first game against Omonia Yth, who proved a physical in counter which the Royals stood up to. Pegasus found it hard going trying to get over the first game jitters! but as the game progressed and with some neat play around the area Pegasus found them selves on top. This was a great first game from the Royals and they done them selves proud.
As the morning went on the lads came up against 3 more good teams in Cuffley Yth, Potters Bar Crusaders and Bury Rangers from Hertford. Each one providing strong and difficult tests for the Royals, which in fairness the young lads resisted and even though the boys seemed of there usual par, which was down to the scorching sun, they kept going and worked extremely hard for some great results. The chemistry and work rate with in the team is very strong and this was needed against the opposition and the raising temperature.
After all the teams collected there medals there was one last game organised which was a great idea. This put all the teams against similar ability teams which finished of the morning nicely. The Royals were drawn against Ryan Fc from Chingford and Waltham Forest area. The two teams were a worthy match. Ryan Fc were quick from the start and caught the Royals on the back foot a couple times but they managed to deal with the pressure. This suited Welwyn as they were extremely fast on the counter attack. Pegasus found them selves though on goal but were unable to find the goal. Ryan Fc came close with some long rang efforts and unable to capitalise on set peaces which showed they still had a something to say in the game. Both teams never looked to play the long ball, which was nice to see and this allowed the parents from both teams to enjoy the game.
The Royals were once again under a lot of pressure but this time the counter attack paid of. It was fast and precise this caught Ryan Fc out and Pegasus found the back of the net. With still plenty of time left and the substitutes made. Welwyn dug deep and and kept playing there football and caused Ryan Fc some problems but as time was running down Welwyn Pegasus stood firm and this was rewarded when the ref blew the final whistle.
Congratulation boys it was a great morning of football!
