FIRST SUCCESS OF THE SEASON - UNDER 10 ROYALS30 Aug 2010
U10 Royals win the Codicote Youth 5 aside Tournament
Hot on the heels of their appearance at Wembley the U10's Royals entered the first ever Codicote Youth Tournament held at Gosling Stadium.
The event was hosted by Codicote Youth in aid of the Willow Foundation but the Royals showed no charity to their opposition in the group stages by blasting away Codicote Blacks, Brazillian Soccer School, King George A and Codicote Blue scoring over 20 goals without conceding any in return!
The semi final was against much tougher opposition in the form of Codicote Reds who bravely fought back from an early Pegasus goal to bring the game into extra time. The Royals dug deep and an early goal in extra time sealed a place in the Final.
The final was against Panshanger who had also topped their group but Pegasus were strong and had nothing but attack in mind as they hit the post, bar and goalkeeper several times before winning 2-0.
The squad of six all scored goals and will look to repeat the tournament win next week at the Pegasus Tournament.
Squad (goals scored): Nathan Trigg (2), Finnley Brunel (2), Tomasso DiGiulio (2+), Liam Byrne GK (2!), Hayden Evanson capt (at least 4), Larry Balogun (loads)

PEGASUS UNDER 10S SHINE AT WEMBLEY13 Aug 2010
Welwyn Pegasus U10 Royals took part in an FA / McDonald's football festival yesterday (12th August) at Northwick Park, Wembley, where they played against 3 teams from across the UK.
The Royals had a fantastic time on and off the pitch. In the matches throughout a long day they remained unbeaten, their record; drew the 1st game 0 - 0, won the 2nd game 2 - 1, and in the 3rd match they won 3 - 0.
The players then picked up their McDonald's ruck sacks along with lots of goodies inside.
At 2 O'clock all the teams moved down to the home of football - the hallowed Wembley stadium. Here they were met by Sir Trevor Brooking, Geoff Hurst, and Michael Owen also put in an appearance.
The Royals then played their last match on the Wembley pitch against Kiddiminster Harriers, an inspired performance in the 10 minute match saw them come out 5 - 0 winners, the opening goal came from James Collins, Nathan Trigg found the net and Lanre Balogun bagged a hatrick to see the Royals comfortably home.
After the game the team and coaches were awarded medals in the Royal Box.
A great day was had by all players, parents and coaches, in what was a truly amazing experience.
Team of the day:
Nathan Trigg, Lanre Balogun, Daniel Webster, Thomas Dermont, Finnley Brunel, Matthew Billimore, Hayden Evanson, James Collins
PEGASUS CHAIRMAN MEETS ENGLAND TEAM13 Aug 2010
Before the Hungary game this week Alan Gibbs was invited along with a few other selected Hertfordshire coaches to attend an England training session and then also meet with the England team and coaching staff.
The initiative was part of the FA launch of the 'Get Into Football' campaign which is designed to drive prospective grass root football participants to find out how they can find a team, get into refereeing, get into coaching and learn about The FA Youth Award.
Alan had a hugely enjoyable day, watching the training techniques of the national team was very interesting and then being allowed access to discuss tactics with the players was a real privilege, but the highlight of the day was meeting his idol Bobby Zamora, although I'm not sure the same could be said by Bobby!
Alan is pictured to the left just behind Fabio (maybe his next coaching position is not far away?)

WELWYN PEGASUS FC AWARDED FA COMMUNITY CLUB STATUS11 Jul 2010
It is our great pleasure to announce that the Football Association have awarded Welwyn Pegasus FC Community Club status.
This is fantastic news for the club as it endorses the plans and development ideas that the club have been building for many years.
This accreditation is welcome news not just for the club but also for the entire community as it will help all football players (current and future) in the area and from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities.
The FA Community Club scheme builds upon the foundations of the Charter Standard scheme in placing clubs at the heart of their community.
Community status is deemed the pinnacle of the club development pathway and requires a club to have a high quality, multi-team (minimum of 10 teams) set up with excellent social, training and playing opportunities for all. As such, the number of Community Clubs is one of the truest measures of success for The FA Football Development strategy, today there are just 7 across Hertfordshire.
All new FA Community Clubs are required to meet rigorous new FA criteria, ensuring they provide opportunities for players irrespective of age, gender, religion and ability. Clubs must also provide qualified coaches, first aiders and child protection officers.
The club are delighted to receive this new recognition and promise to build upon the platform already established for many years to come.

On a glorious weekend of weather teams from across the club scooped 4 trophies at the recent King George FC Tournament.
On a very hot Saturday, despite being down to 10 men the Under 11 Royals made it all the way through to the final, with players exhausted with the heat they played fantastically beating St Albans City to win the Gold Cup. Then on an even warmer Sunday the U12 Royals sailed through to the final beating Sherradswood 4-0, and on an adjacent pitch our U13 Royals played some great football to beat opposition from Hoddesdon to claim their first piece of silverware for the season.
In the Under 10 section the all conquering Cyans reached anoither final, this time it was success in the Silver Cup with a comfortable 3-0 over the hosts King George Cobras.
Well done to all 4 teams for lifting the cups and beating the heat!!

PEGASUS UNDER 6'S MAKE THEIR DEBUT!10 May 2010
On a cold May morning Pegasus Under 6's made their football match debuts against Knebworth Youth FC.
The game began in front of a very large crowd and the team initially looked a bit shell shocked as they found themselves in a real competitive match for the first time. Knebworth took advantage of this and scored before Pegasus were able to settle down. The tide turned as the team found their feet and Callum Stern scored two excellent goals, Mathew Boylen followed up on a rebound and Oliver Grout scored a solo effort starting his run from the half way line.
In midfield Daniel Ireland was covering the whole pitch and Owain Kimber, William Brady and Alex Manhood were starting to win the tackles to feed the strikers. Their work was paying off as strikers Mathew Cox and Tyler Brunt were very unlucky not to score as they both saw two shots narrowly miss the target. In defence Lulu Wood was battling for every ball and Connor the first to volunteer in goal was making some fine saves to the delight of the crowd.
Knebworth had the experience of several games under their belt though and this showed as they looked dangerous with every attack and scored some very well taken goals. The Pegasus defence of Noah MacDonald and Thomas Warner were at times the only players facing an Orange and Black tide but they both excelled with some well timed tackles. The final score line will point to a Knebworth win but the Pegasus team should be very proud of themselves as they battled for every ball, scored some very good goals and showed real enthusiasm for the game.
CUP SUCCESS - UNDER 10 CYANS10 May 2010
Well done to the Under 10 Cyans for winning the ORC White Division League Cup. This completes a fantastic double for the team after last weeks League Championship triumph, well done to all the boys and coaching staff for a remarkable achievement!!

A close game in the final of the Under 12 League Cup saw the Royals narrowly beaten 2-1 by Potters Bar. Well done to the team for battling throughout the season, runners up in the league and cup is no mean achievement.
U10 CYANS ARE CHAMPIONS!!!02 May 2010

EGGCELLANT UNDER 10'S EASTER FESTIVAL08 Apr 2010
The Under 10 Royals and Sapphires combined together with great effect at the Mini Easter Football Festival which was played at the home of King George FC over the Easter weekend.
The friendly football festival was played on a round robin basis with Under 10 high flyers, Bury Rangers Yellows also joining ours and the hosts two sides. Each game was a straight 15 minutes so there was very little waiting around but just enough time to catch your breathe whilst watching an enjoyable mornings play.
The Royals and Sapphires had split their players into two teams so we even had a friendly rivalry match at the end of the tournament which in fact turned out to be between the tournaments two unbeaten sides! Both teams enjoying great success with a series of impressive performances securing 5 wins and a draw (results below) before the final encounter. This matched turned out to be a thriller with a fantastic hatrick by Keir Lloyd sealed the bragging rights for Pegasus team 2.
Arguably however the Goal of the day went to Pegasus team 1, as a fine sweeping move which started from defence saw Jordon Cole head a pin point cross from Luke Waddle into the roof of the net.
Whilst their were no official winners or trophies, the tournament was played in a great spirit and we would like to express our thanks to all at King George FC for hosting such an enjoyable event.
For the statisticians amongst you, the scores on the doors were as follows:
Bury Rangers Yellows 0 - 1 Pegasus Royals 1 (Luke Waddle)
King George Vipers 0 - 2 Pegasus Royals 2 (Nathan Gammon 2)
King George Cobras 0 - 1 Pegasus Royals 1 (Jordan Cole)
King George Vipers 0 - 3 Pegasus Royals 2 (Keir Lloyd 2 Jack Briars)
Bury Rangers Yellows 1 - 1 Pegasus Royals 2 (Keir Lloyd)
King George Vipers 0 - 1 Pegasus Royals 1 (Cameron Boon)
Pegasus Royals 1 2 - 3 Pegasus Royals 2 (Keir Lloyd hat trick)
(Morgan Baidoo, Luke Waddle)
Well done to all the boys who represented Pegasus at the Festival. You continue to make your club proud

FORMER PLAYER NEWS FROM THE FAR EAST26 Nov 2009
Two former Pegasus players currently enjoying some sunshine in Singapore have been doing rather well playing for their local teams in a recent tournament.
Max and Jack Swann are currently playing for the Singapore International Academy for the Under 10 and Under 12s respectively.
The 7 a side tournament included academy teams from across Asia including Singapore, China, Thailand, Indonesia, Japan and Hong Kong.
After a gruelling day of qualifying from the group stages with 6 teams in a group, both Jack and Max's teams qualified as runners up in their respective divisions to go through to the quarter finals on day 2.
The tournament took place in 30c degrees of heat which made it a little different from Welwyn Garden on a fresh November morning! The high standard of play meant that many of the 15 minute matches went into extra time, but the tournament had a unique way of finding a winner. In extra time, teams were only allowed to field 3 players in the sudden death period which lasted for just 3 minutes. If the game was still tied then a player from each side was removed leaving just 2 players to play for another 3 minutes, if it was still all square then it became one versus one for a final 3 minutes!!
Feedback from spectators was that this was a very exciting concept and worked very well to settle close matches.
Both Jack and Max's quarter finals went to the sudden death format. The key question faced by the manager; do you leave your goalkeeper on (who can play outfield) or put on an outfield player??
In Jack's game the manager left the goalie on, and after an early scare the keeper played a couple of neat one two's to leave the opposition players stranded to claim the winning goal, so they marched on to the semis. This spurred the team on as they then went on to beat a very physical team from Beijing 2 - 0.
The reverse tactics were employed by Max's manager in their quarter final, he went for 3 outfield players and no 'keeper, but this strategy also paid off as a through ball found Max on the wing, he cut inside the defender and lashed home an unstoppable shot to take them through also to the semis. Unfortunately the tournament ended there for Max as his team met a strong local Thai side and despite playing good football they went down 2 - 1.
The Under 12 final was a great match, the Singapore academy playing a team from Thailand, two superb long range goals from their gifted winger ensured a comfortable win to spark wild celebrations, and pitch invasion where the players were carried off shoulder high by the crowd!!
A great experience for both parents and players alike, well done to Max and Jack!

This year we have organized a paintball session, the date for this is Saturday 28th November from 1-4pm, this is open to all children over 12 yrs and we'd also welcome managers, coaches, parents and friends to come and relieve some pent up stress!. To reserve a place a deposit of £10 is required by Friday 6th November. The total cost per person for this event will be £22.50 which will include all the equipment and 300 paint balls.
For those aged below 8
For the first time we will try to organise a christmas party for the younger ones, full details will follow once we have confirmation of the venue and from the entertainers.

PEGASUS TOURNAMENT 200923 Sep 2009
Welwyn Pegasus FC would like to thank all visiting teams and supporters who attended the recent pre-season tournament held on 5/6th September. We hope you enjoyed the event, apologies if you were caught up in any delays entering the car park, we had over 3000 people participating over the two days so we appreciated your patience. On the footballing side many clubs fedback that their players had a thoroughly enjoyable day, even if you didn't pick up a trophy on the day we hope the amount of games you played has helped your preparation for the start of the season?
The club would also like to publicly thank the volunteers who helped out the course of the weekend, a massive pat on the back to all of you, (you know who you are!), we could not have run the event without you. But, a special thanks goes to Ian and Vanessa Prior the main organisers, they both worked tirelessly for weeks leading up to the tournament, the club is extremely grateful.
If you want to see pictures from the weekend, please go to the DE Photo website and type in Pegasus. These photos can be purchased on-line.
Pegasus would also like to give a special thanks to its sponsors, John Lewis (Welwyn), Hakalok Restaurant, and ORC for the match balls.
We look forward to seeing you all again next year.
